It is a great way of integrating a slide show with n
blackboard, like showing the slideshow on a regular board and being able to
write on it, but instead having your writing interacting with the slide show.
The use of IWB will help sustain their participation and
commitment in class by providing more opportunities for teacher/student
interaction and more student participation. Using a IWB would also lighten my
workload by being able to save the notes made during class.
Technology in the classroom is great if used correctly and
one of the pitfalls of technologies are that some schools always seem to be
chasing latest in gizmos and gadgets , sacrificing much needed resources for
the sake of bragging rights.
It can be used to play interactive games with the students
such as crossword puzzles, hangman or Sudoku. In a mathematical literacy classroom the board can for
example be used to show a triangle and then having a student draw smaller
triangles inside the larger one or showing that three cones will fit inside a
cylinder with the same base and height.
I’ve read a few blogs all explaining the different
advantages and uses for IWBs. I didn’t mention anything new above mainly
because I couldn’t think of seeing as my personal experiences with IWBs are
limited. Hopefully if I’m one of the lucky teachers who lands a classroom a IWB
I’ll be able to find a worthy use for the thing.
