The third week of PGCE just came to a close and I finally
came to the conclusion that I am not really sure what this digital pedagogy
thing is all about.
I read an interesting post by @jcleopenaws (A different view
of Digital Pedagogues)in which he makes the case that “Geeks were digital pedagogues
to one another” and the reason that they were only digital pedagogues to one
another is that the world simply didn’t understand their language. I found this
very interesting.
I like how we are able to read the different views and takes
from a massive diverse PGCE group on digital pedagogy. I even forgotten the
fact that we have to read other students blogs and comment on them. Most of my
time I spent on twitter nowadays are spent on just browsing through the #PGCEmix
and reading, some quite artfully written too.
My comments on the articles.
“We are not born digital pedagogues nor do we have to be
formally schooled in the ways of digital pedagogy”
I agree with this technology develops at a rapid pace and a
person considering him or herself a digital pedagogue has to according to the
article also develop his/her skills to use this new technology to their
advantage. You become a digital pedagogue by trying new things and if they
don’t result in a more fun productive and effective learning environment for
the learner – its time to try something else.
“Digital pedagogy calls for screwing around more than it
does systematic study”
This I think is also true, because I think the best way to
learn and become familiar with a peace of technology or the culture around the technology
is by playing around with it. Like doing something with it that it wasn’t designed
for, this is the time when we, as Bob Ross the painter used to say “we don’t
make mistakes, only happy accidents”. Taking something out of the box and using
it in an “out of the box” way.
When I started typing this post digital pedagogy was an unknown
quantity to me, but after reading the articles and spending some time thinking
about it I feel it’s now less so than rather a topic I can say a lot about
without really saying anything.
